Just as a piece of metal gets brittle when worked too hard, working the core can lead to tight, injury-prone muscles. A flexible mid-section allows you to build strength safely and effectively, so do these exercises first to gently stretch your abdominal muscles.
Practice Guidelines
Before starting your yoga asana practice, please read the Practice Guidelines for helpful tips.
Focus on your breath
Don’t underestimate the benefits of focused breathing when practicing yoga. The simple act of expanding the lungs when inhaling, then drawing the belly in when exhaling, can strengthen the abdominal muscles. Breathing is also helpful for losing weight, as it can reduce the stress that may cause us to overeat.
Daily routine to detoxify
Before you bathe, use our Wai Lana Detoxify Skin Brush to gently exfoliate your whole body — placing extra focus on your waist and abdomen — to increase circulation and remove impurities. After bathing, apply our Detoxify Massage Oil to your body using long strokes and kneading movements. Inhale the aromatic scents of grapefruit, juniper berry, lavender, and rosemary, and feel light and refreshed!
Now it’s time to work with more challenging poses to develop your core strength. The sessions include a variety of postures that encourage both strength and flexibility.
